Adobe Photoshop Plug-in
1:1 Image Sizing Plug-in Institute for Forensic Imaging
The IFI Sizing plug-in is an easy to use tool that runs inside Adobe Photoshop. It was designed to allow Forensic professionals and others to size an image, without having to crop the image, so that it will print life-size (1:1). The plug-in doesn't change the image in anyway; it simply provides a way to determine how many pixels there are between two points the user defines. After clicking the Process button, the "actual" resolution of the image is displayed. In addition to life-size, the plug-in will allow the user to calculate image resolution for various magnification factors. The most common requirement is a 5x magnification prior to entering a fingerprint into an NEC AFIS.
Once the "actual" resolution has been displayed, the user records the value and uses the Photoshop sizing function to rescale the image. The image is not resampled (interpolated), rather the file header is altered to indicate the "actual" dimensions of the image so it will print that size.
IFI wrote this plug-in as an aid in their classes, but generously allowed us to distribute it here, free of charge. The zip file contains installation instructions and a brief example of how the plug-in is used. This plug-in doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but it performs the required task quite well. Please thank IFI for allowing us to distribute this plug-in. You can visit their site by clicking the link above. While you're there, check out their class schedule.
